"Just because their standards are low does not mean that we should lower ours"

This was an interesting book.

Quick Summary: Alexa and Drew are opposites. Alexa works for the mayor and Drew is a pediatric doctor, but when Drew needs a date to a wedding, meeting Alexa comes at the perfect time. Which quickly starts as a favor leads to a fun and carefree relationship that both pretend they are satisfied with. But what if they want more?

This was an okay book, to be honest. The romance was there and there was half a plot. The two characters were perfect for each other and it was evident from the beginning. They both sucked at communicating SO MUCH. Like their one big fight that was basically the entire climax could have been abolished if Alexa didn't storm away and just let Drew finish talking. Their entire fight was stupid and it made me upset because the stakes weren't very high. I really thought maybe their fight was going to be about how they live too far and managing their taxing careers. But it was over something that could be easily solved if they just talked through it. It made me not care so much about their relationship and I really wanted to care. I loved the fact it was an interracial couple, and themes of racism are mentioned and brought up.

Drew treated Carlos so bad, and it was INFURIATING. Carlos deserves the world (which is the only reason why I'm reading the next book) and I want him to be happy. I was thoroughly invested in Carlos and like all the secondary characters, just not Drew and Alexa. There was also an obsessive amount of sex scenes in this book, many of which I don't think are necessary. It was weird timing.

The pacing of this book was also kind of slow. It took a long time for the story's main plot to start. The beginning was interesting and how it started was pretty entertaining, it's just the energy level quickly decreased.

All in all, this isn't horrible, and it's a good breezy read if you want to read a cheesy but heart-warming romance. I am going to read the next book, but only because I love Carlos so much it's ridiculous.
