OMGG!! This was such an excellent debut novel by Sarah Hogle. With the perfect amount of humor and emotional moments, this was a good book. Reading this book gave me so much serotonin and made me want to be in a relationship so badly. Hogle definitely does not disappoint with this comedic book, that will absolutely make you stay up all night.
Quick Summary: Naomi Westfield and Nicholas Rose are the perfect engaged couple, or at least they pretend to be. In reality, they have growing animosity due to parents, friends, lack of commitment, and so forth that is making their upcoming wedding seem more like a death day. When their growing disdain for each other is revealed, they pull pranks, and tricks to get the other to back out of the wedding first. But in doing so, Naomi and Nick are finally opening up to each other and becoming closer than ever. But is that enough to save an engagement?
Initially, I was super uninterested in reading this book because the 'already being engaged' thing isn't really my type. But then I read reviews saying it was super funny and sweet, so I decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed at all. The entire book had so much humor and Naomi and Nick had so much wit and grit to them. Naomi, when standing up for herself, just shows an amazing amount of confidence. Nick sometimes need to learn to stand up to his mother (don't even get me started on her), there is a difference between loving your son and being obsessed with him. P.S. every time Naomi says 'adult son' when his mother talks for him had me hooting.
Honestly, I was so opinionated during this book I actually wrote down my thoughts while reading. A lot of it was me not handling Nick's mother's critiques well and just being on Naomi's side. The characters were definitely well thought out and memorable. So memorable in fact that I was dreaming about them. Yikes! The plot was slow at times and seemed to be filled with meaningless events. But in the end, they all worked towards the goal of getting them together. Also, it was the small things I loved about their romance. The small details that they would remember. The lack of communication and bottled up feelings got very annoying at times. I knew they could work through it, but talking is not either of their strong suits.
All in all, this was a really good Young Adult romance contemporary novel. The romance was cute, but I enjoyed it more for the humor aspects. I do regret putting off this book for so long, but finally reading it was fun. If you are ever in need of a good laugh or a reason to believe refinding someone is as good as finding someone new, this is the book for you.
